Designated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to support global capacity building, surveillance, governance, and responsible antimicrobial use in aquaculture.

FAO Reference Centres are designated by the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on the basis of their specific capacities and notable achievements on issues related to FAO's mandate, as well as their active involvement in fields of expertise relevant to the work of the Organization and significant contribution of the FAO RC to the implementation of FAO's programme priorities and strengthening capacities in countries and regions.
FAO has designated five institutions globally as FAO Reference Centers for Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquatic Biosecurity. The official launch took place on 26 June 2023 at the FAO Headquarters, Rome.
